One of my collages, coincidentally entitled Seeing Red, will be on view at the Modern Visual Arts Gallery in Bethlehem PA from September 5 through September 30: “Red is a color of intense emotion. In this exhibition, artists reveal their talent as they manipulate red to achieve aesthetic and psychological effects. The color can serve as purely decorative, create a structural device, function by defining form and animate a visual narrative. This piece was made during the 2025 Politics in Collage artist residency hosted by the Kolaj Institute, in which we were charged to make collages in conversation with Polish pro-democracy activist Dr. Martin Mycielski’s Authoritarian Regime Survival Guide. The text printed over in red in the eyeglasses is from Donald Trump’s How to Think Like a Billionaire; the pages are an account of the day to day experience he had while filming The Apprentice. This collage points to the use of spectacle as a distraction, but also how rage prevents seeing clearly.
