This 4 by 12 inch analog collage on wood panel is one of a series that honors the saguaros of the Sonoran Desert. To me, saguaros are the redwoods of the desert. They can live up to 200 years, can weigh up to a ton, and grow up to 40 feet tall. They provide shelter and food for many other desert creatures (including humans, who have harvested their fruit!). They have a single taproot that grows down 5 feet and a big maze of smaller roots that grow only 3 inches under the surface of the ground to gather as much water as possible.
