This is an 8 by 10 inch limited edition linocut print in a black 11 by 14 inch mat. This one is number 8 of 30. Each one is unique, featuring a one-of-a-kind watercolor background. I came to admire octopi after watching the documentary My Octopus Teacher and this print is inspired by the ideas of two different culture workers and activists. Nadya Tolokonnivoka of Pussy Riot wrote, “As a liquid you’re free to take any shape and mix with any other liquids too. It’s no fun to be ice. I’d rather be water.” John Jordan wrote, “Our strategies must be like water itself, undermining everything that is fixed, hard and rigid with fluidity, constant movement and evolution.” Finally, what’s not to admire about a creature who has evolved with no hard shell and must use only its wits and flexibility to survive against predators?
